Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month?  Each day this week, a story will be shared of one of our students or teachers and their journey with childhood cancer.  Mrs. Atkinson, our math specialist, wants to share her experience with childhood cancer when her son, Colby, was diagnosed with cancer.  Colby is a 2017 Smyrna High graduate and his journey began after he finished his freshman season of football and was diagnosed with leukemia on December 3, 2013.  After 5 months of intense chemotherapy, he had a bone marrow transplant to save his life. Mrs. Atkinson was his bone marrow donor giving him a second chance to live life to the fullest.  His journey has inspired others to persevere through tough times. Colby’s motto is to find something to be happy about and “Keep smiling”.
